Description

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) intends to publish a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to solicit applications for the Research Centers in Minority Institutions (RCMI) program. The primary goals of RCMI Specialized Center awards are to enhance institutional research capacity, enable investigators to compete for extramural support, facilitate research career development, enhance biomedical research tools, and establish partnerships with community-based organizations. The RCMI program allows flexibility in the types of research resources required to accomplish research and investigator development goals. The following components are required for each RCMI Center: Overall, Administrative Core, Research Capacity Core, Investigator Development Core, Community Engagement Core, and Research Project(s). • The applicant institution must be a domestic institution located in the United States and its territories. • The institution must have received an average of less than $50 million per year or less than $25 million per year of R01 total costs of NIH support for the past three fiscal years. • The institution must award doctorate degrees in the health professions or the sciences related to health. • Applications must propose one research project in each of the three scientific focus areas to receive the maximum Center budget. • Collaborative investigations combining expertise in multiple scientific disciplines will be encouraged.
