Description
The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection is offering up to $5 million in phased grant funding for pilot projects that recover thermal energy from wastewater for space heating, hot water, or cooling. The program is split into three phases: a $15 k energy‑assessment study, a $100 k detailed design package, and up to $750 k for construction of a WWER system. Eligible applicants include public and private wastewater facilities, municipal or state‑owned facilities, schools, universities, hospitals, housing complexes, and other nonprofit or private entities that own the site. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis from May 2026 through May 2028, with awards made on a first‑come‑first‑served basis until funds are exhausted. The grant requires submission of a project narrative, budget, design standards, and various certifications through the EEA Grants Management System.
