Description

The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to improve awareness and knowledge of Alpha-gal Syndrome (AGS) in the United States. AGS is an emerging condition and is not nationally notifiable. The NOFO seeks to improve AGS surveillance, patient care, and public awareness and understanding. The main strategies of this NOFO are to share knowledge among stakeholders, educate the public and healthcare providers, and track AGS cases. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will provide funding for recipients to implement these strategies and achieve the desired outcomes. • The formation of a professional network for AGS researchers and public health professionals will improve outcomes related to AGS. • Improved surveillance and communications materials will help to better understand and respond to AGS. • The NOFO will fund targeted active and enhanced surveillance activities to understand risk factors for exposure and the development of the disease. • Access to care is a major issue affecting AGS patients, and the NOFO could fund activities to address this issue.
