The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is seeking a Great Rivers Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU) partner to develop Bayesian spatial‑statistical methods for analyzing passive bat acoustic monitoring data. The project will create new models that account for spatial correlation and observer misclassification, produce efficient computational code, and generate dynamic maps of bat species occurrence and relative abundance across North America. Funding is provided via a cooperative agreement with a base year of $150,000 and up to four additional years contingent on performance, for a total estimated award of $350,000. One award will be made; the recipient must be an existing Great Rivers CESU partner and will be required to submit a full technical narrative, data management plan, and annual/final reports through Grants.gov and GrantSolutions.
• Develop Bayesian models that incorporate spatial dependence for bat occupancy and activity.
• Integrate species‑level classifier directly on acoustic call characteristics.
• Deliver computationally efficient algorithms and open‑source code.
• Provide annual progress reports, data management plans, and final technical and financial reports.
• Align with EO 14292, EO 14303, EO 14313 and support the America250 celebration.
