Description

The State of California’s Military Department is seeking a qualified contractor to perform a comprehensive archaeological survey of approximately 2,000 acres at Camp Roberts, San Miguel, CA. The contract is a single‑award, not‑to‑exceed lump‑sum solicitation covering all labor, equipment, permits, and reporting requirements from roughly September 2026 through August 2027. The contractor must coordinate with the California Army National Guard for UXO clearance, record both prehistoric and historic resources (including built‑environment features), and deliver detailed GIS‑compatible data and a final written report. • Conduct a 2,000‑acre surface survey using ≤ 15 m transect spacing (adjustable with approval). • Document all cultural resources, produce DPR 523 forms, GIS shapefiles (ArcGIS Pro 3.0+, UTM zone 10, NAD 83), and a draft/final archaeological report. • Meet strict delivery timelines: draft report ≤ 150 days after fieldwork, final report ≤ 30 days after draft‑final comments. • Provide insurance (≥ $1 M GL) and comply with numerous statutory certifications (small‑business, DVBE, drug‑free workplace, GenAI disclosure, etc.).

Budget estimate

$300,000 – $600,000

Based on comparable California state archaeological surveys of similar size (≈ 2,000 acres), typical contractor fees range from $150 to $250 per acre when accounting for field labor, GIS data creation, report writing, and required insurance/bonds. Multiplying yields an estimated contract value of $300,000–$500,000; adding contingency for travel, equipment, and premium certifications could push the high end to about $600,000. Thus a reasonable payoff range is roughly $300k–$600k.
