The National Park Service intends to award a cooperative agreement for the project "Visibility Data Analysis and Image Display Techniques". The goal of the project is to develop a sound scientific understanding of air pollutant effects on park resources and to identify the best management practices for protecting park resources. The project will involve visibility and aerosol research, investigations into nitrogen deposition, and data analysis and dissemination. The recipient of the award will be responsible for carrying out the statement of work, conducting aerosol research, and maintaining and developing an air quality portal and database.
Some key aspects of the project include:
• Using monitoring and modeling data to assess the current levels and trends of haze, reactive nitrogen deposition, and ozone in national parks
• Better understanding the causes of excess haze, reactive nitrogen deposition, and ozone levels
• Dissemination and communication of the results from the air quality studies
• Development of public outreach products
• Collaboration with NPS scientists and other stakeholders
