The U.S. Embassy Small Grants Program is designed to support civil society in Kazakhstan and advance the interests and will of Kazakhstani citizens. The program has two deadlines for submission of application forms. Awards will be made pending the availability of funds. Project proposals must address one of the following themes: rule of law and legal reform, transparency in government and anti-corruption, anti-trafficking, protection of human rights and promotion of tolerance, public education and advocacy, minority rights, and women’s empowerment.
• Priority focus will be given to projects that address trafficking in persons and public education and advocacy, particularly air quality management.
• Preference will be given to projects that engage in activities resulting in concrete outcomes, advocacy for solving societal issues, and development of proposals for legislative changes.
• Projects consisting solely of conferences or roundtable discussions are unlikely to be funded.
• All things being equal, projects implemented in the regions, including rural areas, are preferable to those focusing only on Almaty, Nur-Sultan, or Shymkent.
