The purpose of the Promise Neighborhoods program is to significantly improve the academic and developmental outcomes of children and youth living in the most distressed communities of the United States. The program serves neighborhoods with high concentrations of individuals with low incomes, multiple signs of distress, and adverse childhood experiences. The program also serves schools implementing comprehensive support and improvement activities or targeted support and improvement activities under section 1111(d) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended. All strategies in the continuum of solutions must be accessible to children with disabilities and English learners.
• The program aims to ensure school readiness, high school graduation, and access to a community-based continuum of high-quality services.
• Eligible entities include institutions of higher education, Indian Tribes or Tribal organizations, and nonprofit entities working in formal partnership with high-need local educational agencies, institutions of higher education, or the office of a chief elected official of a unit of local government.
• The program has an estimated funding of $65,000,000 and expects to make 12 awards.
• The award ceiling is $6,000,000 and the award floor is $4,000,000.
