Promoting Cancer Surveillance Workforce, Education, and Data Use

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is issuing a cooperative‑agreement grant to strengthen the national cancer surveillance workforce. The award will support certified Oncology Data Specialists and other cancer‑registry professionals through education, credentialing, professional development, technical assistance, and the creation of best‑practice tools. Activities include: • Developing and delivering training curricula for Oncology Data Specialists. • Providing credentialing and continuing‑education resources. • Enhancing data quality and completeness for the National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR). • Building partnerships and technical‑assistance mechanisms to help state registries use NPCR data. • Promoting the value of NPCR data to researchers, public‑health officials, and policymakers. The grant is a single‑award cooperative agreement with an estimated total funding of $2.9 million, slated to begin September 1 2027. Applicants may include state, local, tribal, nonprofit, and for‑profit entities that meet CDC eligibility criteria.
