Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP)

The Illinois GEAR UP (ILGU) Grant Program is designed to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education. The program provides seven-year grants to high-poverty middle and high schools, as well as through the first year of college. Services provided under this grant include mentoring, outreach, and supportive services. A portion of the grant will also be used to fund District Coordinators and postsecondary scholarships to eligible students. • The grant is administered by the Student Assistance Commission. • The program provides services to 12 Illinois school districts. • The grant includes funding for District Coordinators and postsecondary scholarships. • The program aims to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education.
