The National Park Service intends to award a single source justified cooperative agreement to the Sierra Institute for Community and Environment for forest restoration training programs at Lassen Volcanic National Park. The project aims to train youth and engage local communities in developing a long-term training program for all aspects of forest restoration. The cooperative agreement will expand the role of Lassen Volcanic National Park as a living laboratory and broaden community engagement and access to sources of new information, ideas, individuals, and communities to support park research and resource management.
• The project will include forest restoration research projects, internships with disadvantaged communities and youths, restoration services for completing short-duration and target restoration projects, development of plant materials, and training programs for young adults to enter into and make contributions to local restoration economies in rural areas.
• The recipient will be responsible for carrying out the statement of work, providing technical expertise, hiring and supervising personnel, and coordinating with the National Park Service to develop and implement restoration practices.
• The National Park Service will provide financial assistance, monitoring and oversight, and technical assistance to the recipient.
