The project involves removing an existing failing timber bulkhead and constructing a new one to restore lateral support to the downslope side of the roadway. The new bulkhead will be approximately 55 feet long with a retained height of up to 6 feet and will consist of cast-in-drilled-hole (CIDH) piles with steel wide-flange beams and concrete lagging. The work also includes the removal and re-compaction of approximately 105 linear feet of eroded dirt roadway to a depth of 18 inches, as well as installation of a new metal beam guardrail. The project is part of the Hillside Slope Stability (HSS) Program and is necessary to prevent further erosion and maintain safe access along Nash Drive. Key points to consider: • The project site is located along Nash Drive, in a residential hillside area of Laurel Canyon, approximately 0.85 miles northwest of the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Crescent Heights Boulevard. • The proposed scope of work includes the removal of an existing failing timber bulkhead and the construction of a new bulkhead. • The new bulkhead will be approximately 55 feet in length with a retained height of up to approximately 6 feet. • The work also includes the removal and re-compaction of approximately 105 linear feet of eroded dirt roadway to a depth of 18 inches, as well as installation of a new metal beam guardrail. • The project is part of the Hillside Slope Stability (HSS) Program and is necessary to prevent further erosion and maintain safe access along Nash Drive.
