The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is proposing to reissue a general permit for Class I Underground Injection Control (UIC) well waste disposal. The permit would provide coverage for the disposal of non-hazardous domestic or non-domestic waste through deep well injection into non-drinking water aquifers that have received a groundwater exemption by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The permit applies statewide, although Class I UIC wells are predominantly located on the North Slope and Cook Inlet Regions of Alaska.
• The permit is proposed to be reissued under the authority of Alaska Statutes 46.03 and Alaska Administrative Code (AAC).
• The permit is available for review, and written comments or requests for a public hearing must be submitted by the expiration date of the public notice.
• The permit documents can be accessed from the DEC Wastewater Discharge Authorization Program (WDAP) website.
• Comments should include the name, address, and telephone number of the commenter and a concise statement of comment on the permit condition(s) and the relevant facts upon which the comment is based.
