VASONA SIGNAL CIRCUIT REPLACEMENT

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) is seeking proposals from qualified and experienced firms to perform a comprehensive assessment of the existing Vasona Corridor signal system and provide full engineering design services for signal system upgrades. The selected firm will be responsible for preparing complete Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E) and providing support services during the bidding and construction phases of the project. The scope of work includes confirming needed upgrades or replacement of signal components, re-assessing the state of VTA's signals along the Vasona Corridor, and making recommendations on the scope of the final replacement or upgrade. The project requires the preparation of a 35%, 65%, 95%, and 100% design package, as well as support during procurement and construction. • The existing signal system utilizes the AFTAC II train detection system and Electrocode DC systems with fixed blocks, managed by the Vital Harmon Logic Controller (VHLC) microprocessor system. • The VHLC system coordinates the US&S gate mechanisms for protecting the highway-rail grade crossings on the corridor, shared with Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) freight trains. • The project requires consideration of independent, upcoming signals changes on the rest of the VTA system. • The selected firm must comply with applicable federal requirements, including those related to lobbying and conflict of interest.
