Description

The City of New Haven’s Youth and Recreation Department (YARD) is issuing an RFP to fund New Haven‑based nonprofit organizations that provide in‑person sports, recreation, and pro‑social activities for school‑age youth (ages 5‑17). Grants will cover costs such as introductory sports clinics, equipment, facility fees, coach salaries, and scholarships, but will not support fully remote/online programming. Applicants must serve New Haven residents, offer programs at little or no cost, and demonstrate capacity to serve at‑risk and high‑risk youth. Proposals are evaluated on expected youth impact, reach to at‑risk youth, New Haven residency of participants, organizational capacity, timeliness, community support, and visibility. Funding is available for the FY27 period (July 1 2026 – June 30 2027) and requires quarterly or annual reporting and at least one site visit. • Eligible nonprofits must be New Haven‑based and serve youth 5‑17 free or at minimal cost. • Allowed expenses: sports clinics, equipment, uniforms, referee fees, coach/mentor salaries, facility rentals, scholarships. • Funding period: July 1 2026 – June 30 2027 (12 months). • Submission deadline: Oct 27 2026 11:00 am via OpenGov portal; questions due Oct 16 2026. • Evaluation criteria weighted across youth impact (25 %), reach to at‑risk youth (20 %), residency (15 %), capacity (15 %), timeliness (10 %), community support (5 %), engagement potential (5 %), city visibility (5 %). • Required attachments: technical proposal (no pricing), budget proposal, disclosure & certification affidavit, child‑protection policy, etc.

Budget estimate

$10,000 – $100,000

The solicitation does not disclose a total award ceiling. Similar municipal youth‑sports grant programs typically allocate between $10 K and $100 K per nonprofit, depending on program size, number of participants, and scope of services (e.g., equipment purchases, coach salaries, facility rentals). Assuming a modest grant of $25 K for a small clinic up to $100 K for a larger, multi‑site program, the estimated budget range is $10,000–$100,000. Factors influencing the final amount include the number of youth served, breadth of activities, and cost of equipment/facilities.
