Description

The NASA/NSSC is seeking a contractor to design and fabricate silicon CMOS pixel detectors for the AstroPix ISFM. The contractor will be responsible for designing and fabricating a small test chip, developing a test system, and designing and fabricating a full chip based on a validated design. The detectors will have a dynamic range of 20 keV to 700 keV, a noise floor of 5 keV, and a target power consumption of 1mW/cm2. The work will be performed over a period of approximately 2 years, from July 1, 2026 to July 1, 2028. Key features of the detectors include: * 36 cols x 34 rows - 1224 pixels * 500u pixel pitch and 300u pixel size * 3 tune bits per pixel * Pixel dynamic range 20keV - 700keV * Noise floor 5keV (2%@662keV) * Bias voltage up to 400-500V to maximize depletion * In-pixel amplifier with dynamic feedback option for improved dynamic range

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $2,000,000

The budget for this contract is not explicitly stated in the document. However, based on the scope and complexity of the work, it is likely to be a significant amount. The contractor will be responsible for designing and fabricating silicon CMOS pixel detectors, which is a highly specialized and technical task. The fact that the contract is expected to be awarded on a sole source basis also suggests that the budget may be substantial. A rough estimate for the budget could be in the range of $500,000 to $2 million, although this is highly speculative and may not reflect the actual budget.
