The National Park Service intends to award a single source justified cooperative agreement to the Student Conservation Association for the project titled "Youth Cave Guide Interns at Oregon Caves National Monument and Preserve." The project aims to provide training and stimulate work opportunities for students and recent graduates in the fields of earth sciences and interpretation at Oregon Caves National Monument and Preserve. The interns will assist the Interpretation Division by providing cave tours and education programs to the public about the resources of the park. The project will contribute to public well-being by helping ensure that professionals entering public land management are well-trained and highly skilled.
Key aspects of the project include:
• Providing nine days of directed education in cave science and earth sciences
• Training in leading visitors safely through a cave environment
• Providing informal interpretive services and assisting with the park junior ranger program
• Leading formal interpretive conducted tours of the cave
• Working on one interpretive project each
• Providing daily formal education programs for school children
• Supporting the natural resources division on projects such as bat surveys and plant surveys
