The Central Valley Project Conservation Program (CVPCP) and the Central Valley Project Improvement Act (CVPIA) Habitat Restoration Program (HRP) are soliciting applications for grants to protect, restore, and enhance special-status species and their habitats that have been affected by the operation of the Central Valley Project (CVP). The programs will fund a variety of actions, including land protection, habitat restoration, research, and captive propagation and/or reintroduction projects. Eligible applicants include non-federal entities, such as state and local governments, Indian tribes, and nonprofit organizations. The proposed projects must provide significant habitat benefits to at least one CVP-impacted federally listed endangered or threatened species, excluding fish. The application must include a technical proposal, project budget, and other supporting documents.
Some key points to consider:
• The CVPCP and HRP have established a Priority Project Area map that delineates the specific area of California within which projects will be considered.
• At least 50 percent of available funding will be targeted towards land protection projects.
• The maximum length of award for financial assistance agreements is 5 years from the date of execution of the award for Reclamation agreements.
• The maximum length of award for USFWS agreements is 4 years.
• Neither the CVPCP nor the HRP have a cost-sharing requirement, but partnering is highly encouraged.
• The application must demonstrate an allowable public benefit in order to be eligible for financial assistance.
