The National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program (NCGMP) is a program that aims to establish the geologic framework of areas determined to be vital to the economic, social, or scientific welfare of individual States and the Nation. The program is divided into two components: the Federal component and the State component. The State component, also known as STATEMAP, provides funding to State Geological Surveys to conduct geologic mapping activities. The primary objective of STATEMAP is to determine mapping priorities in consultation with a multidiscipline State Mapping Advisory Committee (SMAC). These priorities are determined based on State requirements for geologic map information in areas of multiple issue need or areas of compelling single-issue need, and State requirements for geologic map information in areas where mapping is required to solve critical earth science problems.
• The program supports the development of a national geologic framework through the generation of new two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) geologic map databases.
• The program provides foundational, standardized information necessary to manage land and water resources of the U.S., discover and assess energy and mineral resources, understand and mitigate natural hazards, and inform national security decisions.
• The program requires a 1:1 match of the total direct costs and allows for up to 18% of Federal indirect costs.
• The program has a total estimated funding of $18,000,000, with an award ceiling of $800,000 and an award floor of $0.
