The Army Contracting Command - Detroit Arsenal (ACC-DTA) is seeking innovative solutions for the conversion and museum-quality restoration of an AH-1S helicopter back to its historical AH-1G configuration for exhibition at the National Museum of the United States Army (NMUSA). The scope of work includes de-modification, fabrication, painting, and restoration of the aircraft to a non-flying standard, as well as transportation, rigging, reassembly, and exhibition installation. The proposed solution must provide comprehensive capabilities for the restoration and transportation of the airframe over a twelve-month period.
• The solution must include a high-level overview of the approach to converting the AH-1S airframe back to the late-model AH-1G configuration standard.
• The solution must include a plan for physical removal of non-period components and the strategy for sourcing, fabricating, or reverse-engineering visually accurate, period-correct components.
• The solution must include a chemical or mechanical paint stripping containment and hazardous waste disposal methodology.
• The solution must include an artistic approach to achieving the required “weathered, in-service” aesthetic.
• The solution must include a plan for the safe transport of the fragile airframe from Fort Rucker, AL, to the contractor facility and ultimately to NMUSA.
