The Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (TJNAF) is seeking sources for the fabrication and delivery of Cryogenic Interface Cans (CIC) in support of the Electron Ion Collider (EIC) 591 MHz Single Cell Cryomodule (591 SC) project. The CIC is an essential component of the EIC 591 SC, serving as an interface between the cryogenic helium transfer lines and the 591 SC module. The successful offeror will be selected through a process that considers price and capability. The CIC requires complex internal piping, installation of Multi-Layer Insulation (MLI), and inclusion of plate-fin aluminum heat exchangers. The subcontractor must adhere to the latest relevant ASME Codes, ensure cleanliness, magnetic hygiene, leak tightness, and dimensional tolerance. Key requirements include: all welds performed and inspected by ASME qualified personnel, experience with cryogenic piping fabrication and QA/QC, and experience with building cryogenic valves.
• The CIC hosts ten cryogenic control valves and requires a minimal leak rate across many welds.
• The subcontractor must submit welding/brazing procedure qualifications, welding/brazing procedure specifications, and procedure qualification records in accordance with ASME BPVC Sec. IX.
• The subcontractor must develop weld maps for all weldments of the Cryogenic Interface Can and supply qualifications for all welders and weld inspectors.
• All welding shall be done by the Gas-Tungsten-Arc Weld (GTAW) method, and the manufacturer shall ensure that no entrapped gases, fluxes, pits, cracks, or like imperfections are left in the heat affected zones.
• The design pressure for the CIC is 33 psig, and the design will require the Seller and any subcontractors to follow the ASME BPVC requirements, including pressure testing of the completed CIC assembly.
