Description

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is seeking a polarization-entangled photon source based on spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC). The source must be capable of accepting an external pump laser and generating high-quality polarization-entangled photon pairs. The system should be built using a periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) waveguide, which offers efficient nonlinear conversion and compact integration. The source must include the ability to temperature-tune the phase-matching conditions, allowing for precise control over the output wavelengths and optimization of entanglement quality. Some key requirements include: • Turnkey alignment-free source • Photon pairs wavelength centered at 1550 nm with 3 nm bandwidth • Noise suppression >75 Db • Fidelity >98% • Pair generation rate >2 MHz • Two-photon interference visibility >98% • Capability to connect an external temperature controller • Capability to take an external pump laser • Continuous Operation: Designed for reliable 24/7 operation

Budget estimate

$200,000 – $500,000

The budget for this opportunity is estimated to be between $200,000 and $500,000. This estimate is based on the complexity of the polarization-entangled photon source and the requirements specified in the document. The actual budget may vary depending on the vendor's quote and the negotiations with NIST. Factors that may influence the likely payment range include the cost of materials, labor, and equipment required to build the system, as well as any additional services or support that may be required.
