The US Geological Survey (USGS) is providing additional information related to the previously issued Landsat Next Mission Operations Center (MOC) Request for Information (RFI) and Studies. The Landsat Next MOC will be responsible for managing the ground segment of the Landsat Next mission, including telemetry and command, orbit determination, and data processing. The MOC will also be responsible for planning and scheduling, monitoring and trending, and flight dynamics and orbit operations. The key functions of the MOC include:
* Telemetry and Command: real-time activities and routine operations
* Orbit/Flight Dynamics: orbit determination, ephemeris and event generation, and maneuver planning
* Planning and Scheduling: contact, imaging, calibration, and all special activities to be executed by the Observatory
* Analytical Modeling: modeling and tools to verify current flight operations concepts and assess potential modifications
* Simulation: activity validation, anomaly support, training, product updates, etc.
* Trending and Analysis: multi-mission, short-term, and long-term trending
* Configuration & State Management: manage observatory and ground system configurations and states
* Contact & Activity Orchestration: plan, schedule, and manage all activities in support of lights out operations.
Some of the key technologies and tools that will be used in the MOC include:
* Ground Network (GN) interfaces for telemetry and command, and data transfer
* Data Processing & Archive System (DPAS) interfaces for data processing and archiving
* Cal/Val interfaces for calibration and validation activities
* S/C Vendor interfaces for spacecraft operations and maintenance
* Instrument Vendor interfaces for instrument operations and maintenance
* Launch Services Segment interfaces for launch and early operations
* NASA GSFC Services interfaces for flight dynamics and orbit determination.
