The US Air Force is conducting market research to identify potential vendors capable of providing a digitally controlled Very High Frequency (VHF) Communications Transceiver and VHF Data Radio (VDR) for the KC-135 aircraft. The transceiver must meet specific physical and functional characteristics, including a height of 3.44 inches, a width of 2.50 inches, and a depth of 14.12 inches. It must also have a frequency range of 118.000 MHz to 152.000 MHz, digitally selectable 25 kHz and 8.33 kHz channel spacing, and a minimum output power of 18 watts. The transceiver must be compatible with the KC-135's existing Communications Management Unit (CMU) architecture and feature an ARINC 750 data interface. Some of the key requirements include:
• Frequency Range: 118.000 MHz to 152.000 MHz
• Channel Spacing: 25 kHz and 8.33 kHz
• RF Output Power: Minimum of 18 watts
• Data-Link Operation: Supports VDL (VHF Data Link) Mode A, Mode 2, and CPDLC applications
• Compatibility with the KC-135's existing CMU architecture
The US Air Force is seeking information from potential vendors to determine the best approach for acquiring this transceiver.
