The primary purpose of this program is to develop and provide education and/or training, and outreach regarding FDA's Produce Safety Rule to produce farmers who are members of federally recognized Tribes. The program is expected to help Tribal farmers access appropriate technical assistance and may include Tribal farmers who are not currently required to comply with the rule but are interested in complying or see economic benefits in doing so. Key objectives include developing a produce safety education program for Tribal communities, strengthening partnerships, and evaluating the program to ensure it produces clear, measurable public health results. Some of the key activities include:
* Developing and maintaining guiding documents to guide the development and implementation of the Tribal produce safety program
* Conducting a Tribal covered produce landscape analysis and an annual Tribal needs assessment
* Developing a logic model informed by the landscape analysis and needs assessment
* Establishing and maintaining a qualified national network of Tribal produce safety trainers
* Promoting understanding and integration of produce safety and environmental considerations and co-management practices
* Improving the effectiveness and reach of produce safety training and outreach
