The Fiscal Year 2022 National Culvert Removal, Replacement, and Restoration Grant Program (Culvert AOP Program) is a competitive grant program that aims to improve or restore anadromous fish passage through the replacement, removal, repair, or improvement of culverts or weirs. The program prioritizes projects that would improve fish passage for anadromous fish stocks listed as endangered or threatened species, or those that could reasonably become listed as such. The program also prioritizes projects that would open up more than 200 meters of upstream habitat for anadromous fish before the end of the natural habitat. The grant program will result in the distribution of up to $196 million in Federal Fiscal Year 2022 funding.
Some key aspects of the job and scope-of-work include:
* Replacement, removal, repair, or improvement of culverts or weirs to improve fish passage for anadromous fish
* Opening up more than 200 meters of upstream habitat for anadromous fish before the end of the natural habitat
* Ensuring the safety of the traveling public over the service life of the infrastructure
* Compliance with Federal civil rights requirements
* Incorporation of strong labor standards and workforce programs, such as registered apprenticeships, labor management partnerships, and Local Hire agreements
* Addressing climate change and sustainability, as well as environmental justice, particularly for communities that may disproportionately experience consequences from climate change and pollutants.
