The University of Florida's Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering is seeking to purchase Pilot-Scale Unit Operations Equipment for Chemical Engineering Teaching Laboratories. The equipment includes a computer-controlled fluid friction in pipes unit, a computer-controlled series/parallel pumps bench, a computer-controlled heat exchangers training system, a computer-controlled continuous distillation unit, a computer-controlled heat transfer series, and a computer-controlled crystallization unit. The contract was awarded to four vendors: Armfield Inc, DAC Worldwide, EDIBON-USA LLC, and Instructional Engineering Systems, LLC. The contract includes a 5-year warranty and installation and training.
• The computer-controlled fluid friction in pipes unit will allow students to understand pressure losses and flow development in a flow system.
• The computer-controlled series/parallel pumps bench will allow students to compare the parallel and series configurations and understand the trade-offs of each arrangement.
• The computer-controlled heat exchangers training system will allow students to understand the intricacies of heat exchangers, including basics and correlations.
• The computer-controlled continuous distillation unit will allow students to understand packed bed columns as a comparison point to plate columns.
• The computer-controlled heat transfer series will allow students to study heat transfer on a bench scale.
• The computer-controlled crystallization unit will allow students to perform a batch crystallization process by manipulating solubility using temperature.
