The National Park Service intends to award a task agreement under a previously competed or single source master cooperative agreement for trail maintenance at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. The project involves general trail maintenance activities, including removal of hazardous trees, brushing and opening of the identified trails corridor, drainage feature clearing, cleaning, repair, and/or construction, and out sloping of trail tread. The recipient, California Conservation Corps, will provide a crew of 12 to 14 youth workers and one C-1 Field Supervisor for a total of six, 40-hour work weeks. The project aims to improve safety and public access along the trails, and provide training and resource stewardship education for the corps members.
Key aspects of the project include:
• Trail maintenance activities, such as removal of hazardous trees and brushing of the trails corridor
• Drainage feature clearing, cleaning, repair, and/or construction
• Out sloping of trail tread to minimize erosion
• Rehabilitation of social paths to discourage future use
• Removal of logs obstructing the designated trails
• Provision of training and resource stewardship education for the corps members
