Description

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is conducting market research to determine the capabilities of potential contractors to construct a Plant Improvement Facility (PIF) for the USDA at the NC State University campus. The project involves constructing a laboratory/office/seed processing building and Headhouse/Greenhouse facilities. The facility will be approximately 45,000 square feet, with an additional 6,500 square feet for greenhouses and headhouses, and 6,000 square feet for an optional equipment storage and shop building. The project requires a pre-engineered metal building with steel frame and box corrugated metal cladding, and the support spaces will be constructed using CMU with a CMU veneer and a low-slope PVC roof. The key features of this project include: • Construction of a laboratory/office/seed processing building and Headhouse/Greenhouse facilities • Pre-engineered metal building with steel frame and box corrugated metal cladding • CMU construction with a CMU veneer and a low-slope PVC roof for support spaces • The facility will be approximately 45,000 square feet, with an additional 6,500 square feet for greenhouses and headhouses • Optional equipment storage and shop building of 6,000 square feet • The project requires capabilities to perform comparable work, including complex construction projects of similar size, scope, and complexity.

Budget estimate

$25,000,000 – $35,000,000

The budget for this project can be estimated based on the project's magnitude of construction, which is between $25,000,000 and $35,000,000. This estimate is likely to be the total construction cost, and the actual budget to the contractor may be lower due to various factors such as overhead costs, profit margins, and other expenses. The factors that may influence the likely payment range include the complexity of the project, the location, and the contractor's experience and capabilities. Given the project's scope and complexity, it is likely that the budget will be closer to the higher end of the estimated range.
