The National Park Service (NPS) is providing public notice of its intention to award financial assistance for the National Fossil Day and Earth Science Week Outreach Projects. The project aims to promote geology and paleontology educational outreach and support the NPS Paleontology Program activities. The recipient, American Geosciences Institute, will be responsible for leveraging the reach and networks of its members and NPS staff to facilitate educational, interpretative, outreach, conservation, and research projects and studies related to paleontology within the National Park System. The project will also involve recruiting and employing paleontology interns, developing publications and web-based content, and coordinating National Fossil Day partnerships and activities.
Some key aspects of the project include:
• Leverage the reach and networks of AGI members and NPS staff to facilitate educational, interpretative, outreach, conservation, and research projects and studies related to paleontology within the National Park System
• Recruit, employ, and advise one or more paleontology interns to conduct paleontological research, respond to technical assistance requests, and develop publications and web-based content
• Coordinate the National Fossil Day partnership and associated educational outreach activities
• Promote National Fossil Day through educational outreach, promotional materials, and development of annual logos
• Develop a post-National Fossil Day evaluation of events, partnerships, media coverage, and participant responses
