The National Park Service intends to award a cooperative agreement for a youth conservation crew to support the Cumberland Island National Seashore Wildfire Management Program. The crew will work to reduce fuel loads near private and NPS structures, as well as maintain fire breaks and defensible spaces. The project aims to provide opportunities for youth to engage in natural resource stewardship and learn about the environment. The recipient will be responsible for providing a crew leader, equipment, and logistics, while the NPS will provide transportation, campsite, and medical evacuation plans.
• The project will establish a five-person youth crew for five weeks.
• The crew will remove flammable vegetation, brush, and trees to reduce fire fuel loads.
• The project will support fire suppression, resource benefit fires, and prescribed fires.
• The NPS will provide substantial involvement during the period of performance.
• The project will support the DOI Secretary's priorities, including creating a conservation stewardship legacy and utilizing natural resources.
