The National Park Service intends to award a single source justified cooperative agreement to the American Conservation Experience for a project that engages young interns in the preservation and cultural resource within Death Valley National Park. The project aims to enhance the visitor experience by engaging park partners, communities, and visitors in the shared experience at Death Valley National Park. The interns will work with park staff to offer educational programs to local community members and the general visiting public on natural and historic resource topics in Death Valley National Park. The project will promote greater public and private participation in the historical programs and activities. The interns will gain hands-on experience outside the classroom by preparing and presenting information about Death Valley National Park to the visiting public.
Some key aspects of the project include:
• Developing educational programs, content, and locations for programs to be given to the visiting public.
• Providing improved recreational access and safety for park visitors.
• Employing interns from the local communities to develop longer-lasting relationships with the local communities.
• Focusing on providing service to the visiting public during the cooler months when park visitation is at its highest levels.
• Selecting interns with a preference given to local (Death Valley) youth applicants.
