Description

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is seeking companies interested in obtaining license rights to commercialize, manufacture, and market a coil-on-plug ignition system for integrated liquid oxygen (LOX)/liquid methane (LCH4) thermal-vacuum environment propulsion systems. The technology was developed by innovators at NASA Johnson Space Center and has the potential to help quell corona discharge issues and reduce overall mass. The coil-on-plug configuration eliminates the bulky standalone coil-pack and conventional high-voltage spark plug cable by combining the coil and the spark plug into a single component. • The technology is designed for use in thermal-vacuum environment propulsion systems operating in a thermal vacuum environment. • The coil-on-plug configuration has the potential to enable integrated LOX/methane propulsion systems in future spacecraft. • NASA provides no funding in conjunction with these potential licenses. • License rights may be issued on an exclusive or nonexclusive basis and may include specific fields of use.

Budget estimate

$100,000 – $1,000,000

The budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate because the document does not provide specific information on the payment amount. However, considering that NASA is seeking companies to license and commercialize a coil-on-plug ignition system, the budget could be in the form of royalties or licensing fees. The estimated budget range could be between $100,000 and $1,000,000, depending on the terms of the license agreement and the commercial success of the technology. Factors that may influence the likely payment range include the exclusivity of the license, the scope of the license, and the potential market demand for the technology.
