Description

The City of Pasadena is seeking information from qualified vendors, researchers, and technology providers regarding advanced solutions that utilize artificial intelligence (AI), thermal imaging, or a combination of both, to support the early detection of wildfires within the city and surrounding wildland-urban interface (WUI). The objectives of this RFI include detecting the earliest signs of wildfire ignition or abnormal thermal activity, providing real-time alerts to fire/police/Utility dispatch centers, reducing false alarms, integrating with existing city systems, operating reliably in varied environmental conditions, and improving situational awareness for responding crews. Respondents are asked to provide detailed information on their proposed solutions, including technology overview, detection capabilities, system integration, operations and support, deployment scope, cost information, and example projects. • The City of Pasadena aims to assess technologies capable of detecting wildfire ignition or abnormal heat signatures prior to visible smoke development. • The RFI is for planning purposes only and does not constitute a commitment to purchase or contract. • The City is interested in identifying whether contractors responding to this RFI are ultimately willing to respond to a formal solicitation. • The deadline for submitting questions is April 17, 2026, and the deadline for submitting proposals is April 24, 2026.

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $5,000,000

The budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate, as it is a Request for Information (RFI) and not a formal solicitation. However, based on the scope of the project, which involves the development and implementation of AI and thermal imaging systems for early wildfire detection, the budget could potentially be in the range of $500,000 to $5 million. This estimate is based on the assumption that the City of Pasadena will eventually issue a formal solicitation for the project and that the selected vendor will be required to provide a comprehensive solution, including hardware, software, and services. The factors that may influence the likely payment range include the complexity of the system, the number of locations where the system will be deployed, and the level of support and maintenance required.
