Description

The USAID/Sri Lanka & Maldives is seeking information to support the reduction of ocean plastics pollution in Sri Lanka and Maldives. The activity aims to improve solid waste management practices, reduce reliance on virgin plastic inputs and products, empower communities to drive local waste management solutions, and strengthen the enabling environment for solid waste management. The program will work with local governments, private sector, and communities to achieve these objectives. The expected results include decreased volume of solid waste available to the environment, improved access to reliable and sustainable waste management services, and increased adoption of 3R behaviors. Some key points to consider: • The activity will take a system strengthening approach to support improved solid waste management practices. • The program will focus on four primary pathways: professionalizing and expanding solid waste management, reducing reliance on virgin plastic inputs and products, empowering communities, and strengthening the enabling environment. • The activity will work with local governments, private sector, and communities to achieve the objectives. • The program will prioritize women's economic empowerment and engage the private sector in addressing the plastic waste challenge.

Budget estimate

$1,000,000 – $10,000,000

The estimated budget for this opportunity is difficult to determine as it is a Request for Information (RFI) and not a solicitation for a contract. However, based on the scope of the activity, which includes improving solid waste management practices, reducing reliance on virgin plastic inputs and products, empowering communities, and strengthening the enabling environment, the estimated budget could be in the range of $1 million to $10 million over the 5-year project period. The factors that may influence the likely payment range include the complexity of the activity, the number of stakeholders involved, and the level of funding available for the program.
