Description

This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) aims to support research on interdisciplinary population approaches to increasing awareness of the relationship between alcohol and cancer risk, understanding and changing social norms related to alcohol consumption, developing and/or evaluating alcohol policy approaches, and the development, testing, and implementation of population-level interventions to reduce alcohol-related cancer risk. Applications that address multiple levels of consumption, such as moderate and heavy drinking, are of particular interest, as well as those focusing on alcohol use disorder (AUD) from the perspective of cancer prevention and control. Some key points to consider include: • Eligible applicants include institutions of higher education, non-profits, and small businesses • The funding instrument for this opportunity is a grant • The opportunity is listed under the categories of Education and Health • Applications should address understudied areas and give attention to underrepresented minority populations experiencing cancer and alcohol-related disparities

Budget estimate

$200,000 – $1,500,000

Because the award ceiling and floor are not specified, it is difficult to estimate the exact budget for this grant. However, the National Institutes of Health typically awards grants ranging from $200,000 to $1 million or more per year, depending on the scope of the project and the experience of the applicant. Given the focus on research and the emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches, it is possible that the budget for this grant could be on the higher end of this range, potentially $500,000 to $1.5 million per year. The total budget over the life of the grant would depend on the project duration, which is not specified in the document.
