Description

The Town of Smyrna is seeking a qualified contractor to sandblast, prime, and paint approximately 500 municipal fire hydrants over a one‑year period. The work includes full site preparation, protective enclosures, removal of existing paint, application of specified primer and top‑coat, adherence to wind‑speed safety limits, and post‑job cleanup. Bidders must provide all labor, equipment, materials, and required insurance, demonstrate at least five years of similar experience, hold a Tennessee general‑contractor license (if bid exceeds $25,000), and submit the required non‑discrimination and drug‑free workplace certifications with their sealed quotation. The contract will be awarded to the most advantageous bid, with a mandatory 90‑day non‑withdrawal period after submission.

Budget estimate

$100,000 – $200,000

Based on industry benchmarks, sandblasting a fire hydrant typically costs $150‑$200, priming $30‑$50, and top‑coat $40‑$80, yielding an average unit cost of $250‑$330. Multiplying by the estimated 500 hydrants gives a contract value roughly between $125,000 and $165,000. Allowing for travel, mobilization, insurance, and contingency, a realistic range is $100,000–$200,000.
