The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is offering a funding opportunity to a Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU) partner for research in detecting plant species habitat to inform management. The research will investigate phenology-informed detection models, model transferability, and optimize the development and delivery of model results to practitioners. The project aims to improve the methodologies and analytic approaches for plant species habitat detection using satellite information. The outcome of a successful agreement will be research products that help DOI and other land-management partners produce and understand the current geographic distribution of plants and the limits of model predictions.
Key aspects of the project include:
• Improving existing code related to data production pipelines and decision support frameworks/tools
• Assessing geographic model transferability using field data across geographic regions
• Synthesizing spatial predictors
• Integrating phenological information to inform detection with detection and habitat suitability models
