Description

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is seeking a commercial vendor to supply a high‑power femtosecond fiber laser system (brand‑equivalent to Toptica FF Ultra 1050 II) and an accompanying acousto‑optical modulator (AOM) for sum‑harmonic generation microscopy. The system must integrate with NIST’s existing Horiba LabRam HR Evolution Raman spectrometer, operate without external water cooling, and meet specific technical parameters (e.g., 1053 nm wavelength, >4 W average power, <100 fs pulse duration, 80 MHz repetition rate). Delivery is required within three months of order receipt, followed by on‑site installation and training at the Gaithersburg, MD campus. The contract includes a minimum two‑year warranty and full payment upon successful installation and acceptance. • Provide 1 × high‑power ultrafast fiber laser meeting detailed optical specs. • Provide 1 × AOM and driver electronics meeting bandwidth and power specs. • Deliver, install, and train up to four NIST personnel on‑site within 2‑4 weeks after delivery. • Warranty minimum two years; payment 100 % after acceptance. • Must be a new, off‑the‑shelf (COTS) product; no prototypes, used, or gray‑market items. • Compliance with NIST cybersecurity and data‑privacy requirements (FIPS‑validated encryption, SP 800‑171, etc.).

Budget estimate

$200,000 – $500,000

The solicitation does not disclose a total contract value. Based on market pricing for a high‑performance femtosecond fiber laser system (often $150‑$300 k) plus an AOM package ($50‑$100 k), plus installation and training, a reasonable total contract range is roughly $200,000 to $500,000. The lower bound assumes a base‑model laser with minimal accessories; the upper bound reflects a top‑spec model, extended warranty, and full on‑site support.
