NEW AUTOMATED WEATHER OBSERVATION SYSTEM

The City of Bakersfield is seeking a qualified contractor to design, install, test, and commission a new Automated Weather Observation System (AWOS) at the Bakersfield Municipal Airport. The work includes locating and tying existing utilities, installing new underground conduit and power cables, erecting a transformer and associated electrical equipment, constructing a concrete maintenance pad, installing a chain‑link security fence, and mounting the AWOS sensor tower with all required meteorological instruments. The contract is funded by the FAA Airport Improvement Program and requires compliance with extensive federal, state, and local regulations, including Buy‑American, Davis‑Bacon, DBE, and FAA safety standards. • Electrical installation of 5 kV THWN cables, a 7.5 kVA step‑up/step‑down transformer, UPS, and conduit system. • Civil site work: grading, drainage, concrete pad, and security fencing (including gate). • Full project duration of 155 calendar days (120 days mobilization + 35 days construction) with liquidated damages of $1,000 per day for overruns. • Mandatory bonding (10 % bid guaranty, 100 % performance and payment bonds) and 5 % retention; one‑year warranty on workmanship and equipment.
