The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a contractor to replace cast iron drain lines and the chemical waste system on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Audie Murphy VA Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. The contractor will be responsible for providing all labor, materials, supplies, tools, equipment, supervision, and construction services necessary to complete the project. The project includes the replacement of sanitary, waste, and chemical drain lines, as well as the installation of new piping and fixtures. The contractor must comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and codes, including OSHA standards and VA regulations. The project is expected to take 300 calendar days to complete. Key tasks include: • Obtaining a permit for interstitial entry prior to commencement of work • Protecting the ceiling and occupants below from construction debris • Identifying and securing all fixtures and drains prior to removal and replacement • Performing all work activities without disrupting the duties of staff or the care of patients • Ensuring fixtures are locked out and tagged out prior to removal and replacement of piping • Following the work task for the removal and replacement of cast iron piping and associated rods and hangers • Demolishing and removing all existing piping, fittings, and associated hangers • Installing new Schedule 40 service weight and extra-heavy bell-and-spigot cast-iron pipe to match existing conditions • Identifying existing hole penetrations through mechanical walls caused by removal of existing piping during demolition and patching and sealing penetrations to maintain structural integrity of the wall assembly
