The National Park Service intends to award a single source justified cooperative agreement to the Yurok Tribe for the construction of the Centennial Grove Trails with Yurok Youth in Redwood National Park. The project aims to build a trail that highlights the old growth redwood forest in the proposed Centennial Grove. The trail construction will provide visitors with the opportunity to experience and enjoy the magnificent trees. The project is part of the National Park Service and the Yurok Tribe's Annual Funding Agreement, authorized under the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act.
Some key aspects of the project include:
• The construction of the Centennial Grove Trail and the Berry Glen Connector Trail, totaling 5,266 feet
• The trails will be constructed to 5 feet wide, using GIS calculations
• The project will provide opportunities for Yurok youth to develop skills in trail maintenance and construction
• The project will improve the lives of Yurok youth in the local community by providing financial income and opportunities for career development
• The National Park Service will provide technical support, documentation, consultation, and liaison to the Tribe in connection with identified tasks
• The project will be funded for $49,700, with no non-federal cost share required.
