Description

The United States Air Force is soliciting quotes for a commercial product, specifically an Ion Trapping Ablation Laser. The laser must meet or exceed certain specifications, including Q-Switched operation, an output wavelength of 532nm +/-10nm, and a pulse energy of at least 5mJ. The laser should have a single mode gaussian shape, low excitation of higher order modes, and an IR filter/segregator to separate the 532nm beam from the 1064nm fundamental. The pump laser should be diode-based, and the cooling system should be air-cooled. The coupling output should be free space. Some key points to consider: • The laser should have single shot capability, with a BNC cable trigger preferred • The laser should have an option to go to a higher rep rate • The laser should have a method of output power attenuation • The laser should be air-cooled, not water-cooled • The laser should have a free space beam profile The Air Force intends to award the contract to the lowest priced technically acceptable offer. The evaluation factors will include the technical capability of the item offered to meet the government requirement and the price.

Budget estimate

$50,000 – $200,000

The budget for this opportunity is likely to be in the range of $50,000 to $200,000, based on the specifications of the Ion Trapping Ablation Laser and the fact that it is a commercial product. The laser's technical requirements, such as the output wavelength and pulse energy, suggest a high-end product that may be priced accordingly. However, the Air Force's intention to award the contract to the lowest priced technically acceptable offer may drive the price down. Factors that may influence the likely payment range include the complexity of the laser's design, the materials and manufacturing process used, and the vendor's reputation and experience in producing similar products.
