The effort aims to restore native understory, improve recreational safety, and reduce tick‑borne disease risk. Work includes a detailed work plan, safety and herbicide‑application protocols, mechanical cutting, cut‑stump herbicide treatment, expansion of a 10‑foot buffer along ~20,000 ft of trails, slash management, and post‑treatment monitoring. Budget estimate

$800,000 – $1,500,000

Based on typical costs for large‑scale invasive‑species removal (mechanical labor, herbicide, equipment, and disposal) in the Midwest, a 185‑acre project with intensive hand‑tool work and chemical treatment usually falls between $0.8 M and $1.5 M. Factors influencing the final amount include the density of mature bushes, terrain difficulty, required pesticide licensing, and any additional safety or erosion‑control measures.
