Request for Information: Supply of Liquid Argon to Long-Baseline Neutrino Facility (Lead, South Dakota)

The Long-Baseline Neutrino Facility (LBNF) project requires a significant quantity of Liquid Argon (LAR) to fill and operate the neutrino detectors. The project is seeking information from potential suppliers to update its market research and acquisition planning efforts. The LAR requirements include approximately 1,599,097,650 scf (~75,000 metric tons) of LAR, with deliveries to start in Q1 CY2029 and continue through Q2 CY2035. The LAR will be supplied to the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) in Lead, South Dakota. The project is looking for suppliers who can provide LAR with a purity of < 5 ppm Water, < 5 ppm Oxygen, < 10 ppm Nitrogen, and < 1 ppm THC. • The LAR will be used to fill and operate the neutrino detectors. • The project requires a reliable and economically feasible supply of LAR. • The LAR will be delivered to the SURF site in limited space near an existing warehouse. • The project is looking for suppliers who can provide LAR with the required purity and quantity. • The project is seeking information on the supplier's ability to handle a catastrophic event that would limit their capability to supply the required amount.
