Description

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Norfolk District, is hosting an Industry Day event for construction contractors interested in the Continuing Authorities Program (CAP) Section 206, Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration, Belle Isle State Park in Lancaster, Virginia. The project proposes to restore approximately 1,400 linear feet of shoreline, including wetland, beach, and oyster habitat. The event will include presentations and a live Q&A session, and the Government is seeking feedback from construction subject matter experts and firms. The project's objectives include restoring native oyster reef habitat, tidal wetland shoreline habitats, and the river-shoreline interface. • The project will involve the construction of oyster sills, sandfill, and native wetland vegetation planting. • The project will require the placement of artificial substrate, such as rock or pre-cast reef structures, to optimize design and placement for both oyster habitat and wave attenuation. • The project will involve the restoration of the historic wetland, which will be accomplished by regrading and planting native cordgrass and native Atlantic ribbed mussels. • The project will require the restoration of the eroding beach habitat, which will occur through the placement of intertidal oyster sills, sandfill, and planting native beach plant species.
