The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is conducting market research to determine the availability of qualified businesses capable of providing software development and technical support to enhance USGS wildfire, fuel load, and land use modeling capabilities. The USGS seeks to continue the development of the Land Use and Carbon Scenario Simulator (LUCAS) model to track land-based fuels and fire risk across the conterminous U.S. The contractor will design and complete enhancements to the ST-Sim software as requested and approved by the USGS Point-of-Contact to support these wildfire and land-use objectives. Key tasks include:
• Providing technical support to the USGS in the use, application, and customization of the SyncroSim/ST-Sim software module
• Developing post-processing analytical tools to translate model outputs into fire-risk maps and hazard assessments
• Collaborating on scientific meetings, publications, and reports regarding LULC-driven fire dynamics
• Adding new features to simulate complex fire-regime interactions and fuel treatment effectiveness
• Modifying underlying code to improve the scaling of large-area wildfire simulations
• Updating documentation and training materials to reflect new wildfire-centric modeling capabilities
