The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is soliciting proposals for new and innovative energy storage systems. The Promethean Clay program aims to develop energy storage systems that can meet the requirements of military and commercial systems. The program will focus on the development of mechanical co-design frameworks that can enable revolutionary advances in energy storage. Proposers are required to submit abstracts, and then full proposals, and must meet the metrics described in the Program Solicitation. Some of the key requirements include:
• Energy density of 150 Wh/kg and 300 Wh/L in Phase 1
• Inactive mass of less than 45% in Phase 1
• Power density and charge/discharge rates that meet the program metrics
• LOI > 26% for all components
• Thermal resilience and safety
The program will consist of three phases, and proposers are required to describe how their solution will enable new capabilities in an application framework. The program is open to all types of energy storage solutions, including batteries, fuel cells, and supercapacitors.
