Design and Build Services for a Material Recovery Facility (MRF)

The City of Columbia is seeking a design-build contractor to provide design and construction services for a new pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) at the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) site. The contractor will be responsible for designing and constructing the PEMB, including all necessary construction work, concrete work, and equipment installation. The project includes a 26,000 sqft building with a 16,000 sqft processing area and a 10,000 sqft tipping floor/receiving area. The contractor must also provide and administer all manufacturer warranties and ensure that the equipment is free from defect in material and workmanship. Some key features of the project include: • A 26,000 sqft building consisting of a 16,000 sqft processing area and a 10,000 sqft tipping floor/receiving area • Ceiling height must accommodate both the use of existing sorting equipment as well as the removal and replacement of the existing sorting equipment • An enclosed area of approximately 1,300 - 1,500 sqft including a breakroom, toolroom, electric room, women’s restroom, and men’s restroom • An HVAC system for the office area • Two exhaust fans for ventilation • Four 18’ garage doors and three 14’ garage doors • A fire suppression system for the building • Installation of heating equipment using the glycol infused circulation system from the bioreactor located on landfill property The contractor must also comply with all applicable requirements of the City of Columbia Street, Storm Drain, and Sanitary Sewer Specifications and Standards, as well as the City of Columbia Water Main Construction Specifications and the City of Columbia Storm Water Management and Water Quality Manual.
