The National Park Service, Interior Region 2, South Atlantic Gulf, has a requirement to create two separate Historic Furnishings Reports (HFRs): one for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) offices and one for the King Family Home (KFH). The HFRs will bring together the historic spaces, themes, objects, and experiences to make these areas as authentic and historically accurate as possible for visitors. The SCLC offices are located in the Prince Hall building, and the reports will focus on the period of significance from 1963 to 1968, during which Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. led the SCLC from the Prince Hall building. The contractor will be responsible for researching and documenting the history, development, and existing conditions of the SCLC offices and the King Family Home, and providing recommendations for the treatment of these spaces.
• The contractor will conduct research at several archives to gather background and context on the Prince Hall building and the SCLC.
• The contractor will study the existing physical characteristics of the building, including the architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• The contractor will conduct interviews with former SCLC staff members and other individuals with knowledge of the SCLC offices and the King Family Home.
• The contractor will provide a detailed report of their findings, including recommendations for the treatment of the SCLC offices and the King Family Home.
• The contractor will work with the National Park Service to develop a plan for the implementation of the recommendations.
